Almouayed and Antoinette

Denver natives find a place for their family to land in Pasadena.

Almouayed and Antoinette

Almouayed and Antoinette both grew up in Denver, Colorado. Antoinette, raised by a single mother of four, grew up in or near poverty for most of her childhood. Antoinette’s childhood experiences taught her the value of higher education. She financed her higher education herself and became the first person in her family to graduate from college, ultimately leading to a rewarding career in public policy.

Almouayed and his family were immigrants from Sudan. Almouayed went on to study Aviation Planning in college and worked for several different firms before eventually “landing” in Pasadena, California.

They’ve been active in the community with Antoinette volunteering her time with the PTSA, School Site Council, and the Miss Black Pasadena program. Now, with the help of Greenline, they’ve been able to purchase a home in the city they love. Almouayed says, “Our family has always dreamed of owning a home in L.A. where we can establish roots to build a sense of community in the neighborhood. This is especially important to us as a Black family; knowing that People of Color have faced historial challenges with redlining and discrimination in the housing market. Homeownership will allow our family to achieve financial stability and upward mobility. Serving as a form of generational wealth and a means of passing down assets to our children and future generations.”
