Stanley

A longtime LAUSD teacher purchases in the community he serves.

Stanley

Stanley is a product of the Great Migration that saw millions of African Americans leave the American South fleeing racial terror and seeking a land of new opportunities in the North and West. Stanley’s relatives came to Los Angeles in the 1930s and 40s and his family has been here ever since. Stanley has spent the past 11 years as a high school Math and Engineering teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. However, despite saving vigorously to be able to buy a home one day, the rising costs of housing in Southern California almost convinced Stanley to move out of state where he could better afford to purchase. That’s when Greenline came into the picture providing Stanley with a $20,000 down payment grant so that he could purchase in the community that he serves in. Stanley says, “My dream was to own a home in Los Angeles, the place that my grandparents saw as a land of opportunity. Now I can stay here and continue to contribute to the community as an LAUSD educator and eventually start my own family. I want to plant roots here and build generational wealth.”
